Press release -
ACTIVITIES FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY TO ENJOY AT SEAFOOD AND SOUNDS
A family Oyster Trail will be just one of the attractions on offer for kids at Poole’s new Seafood and Sounds festival.
Combining Poole’s heritage of music and seafood, Seafood and Sounds was created by five Poole Quay businesses (City Cruises, The Customs House, The Poole Arms, Saint Tropez Restaurant and Truly Scrumptious) following the recent loss of two of the town’s popular events.
Seafood and Sounds will take place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September 2023 with the Oyster Trail just one of the attractions. Other attractions will include a Fisherman’s Local Produce and Gift Market, local musicians performing from 12 noon until 4pm, and a Drinks Tombola (adults only) with proceeds donated to charity. In addition, participating pubs and restaurants will have special Seafood dishes on their menus throughout the weekend and offer their own live music during the evenings.
To take part in the family Oyster Trail, kids and their parents or guardians will need to pick up an Oyster sheet from Hennings or Truly Scrumptious, wander through Poole Old Town, Thames Street, Market Street and the Quay to find the painted Oyster shells that have been lovingly created by Surftide Treasures and are hanging in businesses windows.
Once the Oyster shells have been found, there are letters to spot and a fishy phrase to be worked out by writing down the letters painted on the oyster shells and filling in the grid.
Once the Oyster Trail is completed, the sheet needs to be handed into Truly Scrumptious at 5 High Street or Hennings by 5pm on Sunday 17thSeptember to be entered into a prize draw for some superb prizes which include an overnight stay and breakfast at the Hotel Du Vin, a family Jurassic cruise for 4 with City Cruises, a piece of Poole Pottery from Studio Poole and a sweet hamper from Truly Scrumptious.
The prize draw will take place on Monday 18thSeptember 2023 and the winner will be notified by phone the same day.
Other activities for kids at the Seafood and Sounds weekend include a family oyster trail, biscuit decorating, arts and crafts and Poole Museum on the Move.

Background Notes on Seafood and Sounds
Five Poole Quay businesses came together to create the inaugural Seafood and Sounds following the announcement that two of Poole’s popular summer events were being cancelled. Helen Bull of City Cruises, Nikki Robinson of The Customs House, Michelle Smith of The Poole Arms, Severine Seweryn from Saint Tropez Restaurant and Jeanette Walsh of Truly Scrumptious sweet shop came up with the idea for the free to attend event. Funding has been secured from BCP Council and Poole BID, and local companies Brown Booth Design and Saltwater Stone are offering design and marketing services free of charge.
