NEW FISHERMAN’S LOCAL PRODUCE AND GIFT MARKET LAUNCHED AT SEAFOOD AND SOUNDS
Seafood and Local Craft Stalls
A new Fisherman’s, Local Produce and Gift Market will be one of the key attractions of the free to attend Seafood and Sounds event 2023. Combining Poole’s heritage of music and seafood, Seafood and Sound was created by five Poole Quay businesses (City Cruises, The Customs House, The Poole Arms, Saint Tropez Restaurant and Truly Scrumptious) following the recent loss of two of the town’s popular events.
Seafood and Sounds will take place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September 2023 with the Fisherman’s Local Produce and Gift Market one of the features. Other attractions will incorporate local musicians from 12 noon until 4pm, and a Drinks Tombola (adults only) with proceeds donated to charity. Participating pubs and restaurants will feature special Seafood dishes throughout the weekend and offer their own live music during the evenings and there will be plenty of activities for kids too.
The Fisherman’s Local Produce and Gift Market will take place on both the Saturday and Sunday at Hennings from 11am and will feature seafood and local craft stalls, among them local produce suppliers Dorset Oysters with their luscious, salty-sweet taste, perfect enjoyed raw or cooked and South Coast Seafood with its ready to eat seafood, whether its cockles and whelks or quality lobster. There will also be homemade crab pasties, potted crab and crab cakes for sale.
Other stalls will include:
City Cruises that offers a range of trips sailing from Poole Quay and Swanage Pier including Harbour Cruises, Swanage and Poole Day trips, Sea Train Adventure, Birdwatching and Fireworks Cruises and much more.
Di Venti Boutique will run art workshops for children over the weekend, although adults and parents are also invited to get stuck in too! Alongside these activities, Di Venti Boutique will also be bringing a selection of handmade, locally created art, homeware, gifts and more.
Dorset Brewing Company will sell its award winning, popular Jurassic Coast brands of bottled beer brewed right here on the Jurassic Coast - Dorset Knob, Origin, Chesil, Durdle Door, Jurassic and Jurassic Dark. They will also be selling giftpacks.
East Dorset Beekeepers Association will have information on anything bee related and will have a selection of honey and other bee products for sale, as well as small selection of hand-crafted herbs.
Hotel Du Vin’s team will be decorating sea themed biscuits with children.
Nashira Jewellery is founded by Sharon, a self-employed artisan jewellery maker and designer, who creates individual pieces in her home workshop combining her love of creating jewellery with another of her hobbies – collecting sea grass.
Poole Quays Forum is a neighbourhood group that tries to improve the local urban area and will have information on current developments in the area on the stand.
The RNLI Charity that saves lives at Sea, will have a stall selling Souvenirs and Christmas cards and Calendars. Some of the fundraising team will be around so if anyone would like to discuss volunteering, come along and have a chat.
Scribble is a Dorset based company that hosts art workshops using sea glass and other beach treasures collected from the Jurassic Coast. Beach art pieces will also be available to buy.
Surftide Treasures that blends the natural colours and rough textures of oyster shells with the graceful elegance of Victorian-style patterns and paintings.
Waste Not Want Not is a charity that supports members of the community who suffer from insufficient disposable income. Information and leaflets about services on offer will be available.
Other activities taking place over the weekend will include live music across five different areas thanks to Absolute Music, and numerous activities for children including a family oyster trail, biscuit decorating, arts and crafts and Poole Museum on the Move.

Five Poole Quay businesses came together to create the inaugural Seafood and Sounds following the announcement that two of Poole’s popular summer events were being cancelled. Helen Bull of City Cruises, Nikki Robinson of The Customs House, Michelle Smith of The Poole Arms, Severine Seweryn from Saint Tropez Restaurant and Jeanette Walsh of Truly Scrumptious sweet shop came up with the idea for the free to attend event. Funding has been secured from BCP Council and Poole BID, and local companies Brown Booth Design and Saltwater Stone are offering design and marketing services free of charge.
