Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2017, 1st to 5th November. Orange Zone Electronics Tent 344
Safety and survival expert ACR Electronics celebrates the 5-year anniversary of its ground-breaking SurvivorClub program at this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
SurvivorClub, an educational resource and free beacon replacement initiative, was launched in 2012 to encourage boats to include a 406 MHz beacon in their safety kit.
At this year’s show, ACR Electronics announces that more than 200 survivors have joined SurvivorClub after activating an ACR Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) or ARTEX Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) in a life-threatening emergency.
The company is marking the landmark anniversary at this year’ s Fort Lauderdale Boat Show by highlighting recent rescues involving ACR beacons to emphasize its key safety messages to boat owners.
“It has been such a pleasure meeting and talking to the variety of people who have opened their hearts and taken the time to share their stories with the world in the hopes of educating others about what can go wrong, what they would have done differently and of course why it is so important to have a properly registered distress beacon,” shared Nichole Kalil, ACR Media Manager.
Some of the latest stories of survival shared by new members include kayak fisherman Robert Kramer who activated his ACR ResQLink PLB after he was caught in storm conditions near Kaena Point on the North Shore of Oahu. Judy Perkins was thrown out of her boat during a Water Tribe race off the coast of Cedar Island in North Carolina. In another dramatic rescue, Geof Varell and his two young sons were rescued after spending two hours in the water when they were forced to abandon their sinking boat while fishing off Cape Canaveral.
SurvivorClub provides a free replacement beacon for its members, using a testimonial-based educational approach by publishing first-hand stories from real-life survivors who have activated their beacons. Read real-life testimonies can be viewed at https://www.acrartex.com/survivor-club/.
